EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Super High Roller – Day 2 Report

The second day of the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final’s €100k Super High Roller saw the field play down past the money bubble, and given that only 7 players would get paid, that also meant that that the final table has pretty much been reached too. PokerStars pro Jason Mercier started the day with the largest stack, and he navigated his way skillfully around the various obstacles of the day, finishing with 4.16 million chips, still well ahead of the pack.
Although the organizers had expected several more players to cough up the buy-in going into day 2, only two more buy-ins were registered: that of Samir Taouint and that of Phil Ivey. None of the two players managed to get anything going though, which was especially painful for Ivey who had thusly squandered his third bullet in the event, having piled up a loss of €300k.
Even if he had managed to squeeze into the money, he still wouldn’t have made a profit at this stage, considering that min cash was set for €218.3k.

Mercier started out at the feature table and he did indeed undertake the challenge masterfully. He stayed out of the way when that was required of him and he swooped in for the kill when the opportunity presented itself. He truly got going when he managed to eliminate Faraz Jaka after his flopped set held up against the latter’s open-ended flush draw. Sorel Mizzi played well though and at one point during Day 2 he even managed to snatch the lead away from Mercier. The official bubble-boy of the poker tournament was Erik Seidel, who got his last chips into the middle with a Q,8o. He got picked off by Jason Mercier, and the money was reached.
