EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final Super High Roller – Max Altergott Wins

The final day of the
EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final’s €100k Super High Roller is in the books and a winner has been crowned: Austrian resident Max Altergott secured the title and with it the €1.74 million top prize. Although the win was Altergott’s first ever cash in a live
poker tournament, he is by no means a stranger to high stakes poker. He is in fact a well known and respected high stakes cash game player who only now decided to give it a go at the live tournament tables too. Altergott bested none other than
PokerStars’ Jason Mercier heads-up. Mercier took home a 7-figure haul himself: his share of the prize-pool tipped the scale at €1.11 million.
The start of the final day saw 7 players return to the tables. Everyone was in the money already, so the only pressure was about making it as deep in the event as possible. The short-stacks were numerous at the start of the day, so the first elimination didn’t take particularly long. Mike Watson was the first one to bite the dust: he picked up €218.3k for his 7th place finish. Scott Seiver was the next player to hit the rail: he took home €266.9k for his efforts. The next one in line was Vladimir Troyanovsky, who earned a €339.5k reward. Timothy Adams was the 4th place man. His share of the prize-pool was a €485.1k one. Adams was joined on the rail by Sorel Mizzi soon. Mizzi’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the poker tournament. Mizzi was the last player to settle for a 6-figure prize: he took home €679.1k. At the start of the heads-up stage of the event, Altergott had a slight chip lead. The last hand saw Altergott’s J,9o best Mercier’s 10d, 6d.
