EPT Prague €10k High Roller – Day 1 Report

With the Main Event of the
2013 EPT Prague in full swing, the €10k High Roller drew a little bit of attention away from its tables as it kicked off with its first day on Monday. The High Roller saw an unexpectedly large starting field belly up to its tables. Last year, the 109 starters took the organizers by surprise, so this year, some modifications were made in the event: it has become a three-day tournament. Even so, this season’s turn-out of 135 players and 34 re-entries managed to induce a bit of shock as well.
10 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which 84 players remained standing. The one who clinched the chip lead going into Day 2 was Georgios Karakousis, who finished with 407.2k chips to his name.
Karakousis was followed by Dmitry Yurasov, who had 332.6k chips bagged.
Jonathan Little may have busted out of the Main Event, but he took part in this one, and he even managed to finish the first day within the top 10, having had 241k chips bagged.
Vanessa Selbst and Isaac Haxton finished in the top 10 too, together with Dan Shak.
Doron Davidovitz was the first player to bite the dust on Day 1. He re-bought but he was bounced again later. Johannes Strassmann, Aku Joentausta and Theo Jorgensen were also eliminated and they all re-bought. Mike McDonald was bounced once too: first, he got crippled by David Vamplew, whose pocket Js got the better of his pocket Ks. Jesse Yaginuma then moved in for the kill and sent him to the rail. Timex re-bought though and he made better use of his second bullet, finishing the day with 89.7k chips to his name.
Steve O’Dwyer, Bryn Kenney, Martin Finger and
PokerStars pro Eugene Katchalov made the cut too.
