EPT Prague €10k High Roller – Ivan Soshnikov Wins

The final day of the
EPT Prague’s €10k High Roller saw 10 players return to the tables. The goal was obviously to play down to a winner, and it was handily achieved, within less than 6 levels of action, at the end of which, Russia’s Ivan Soshnikov emerged with the win, having disposed of poker pro Olivier Busquet heads-up. The Russian picked up €352k for his efforts. Busquet didn’t do particularly badly himself: he walked away with €257.8k. Three more players finished with 6-figure prizes: Dmitry Yurasov picked up €177.5k for his 3rd place, Thomas Muhlocker finished 4th for €144.7k while Mike McDonald’s 5th place was worth €115.4k.
Jeff Rossiter and Vanessa Selbst made the top 10 as well, although they busted 7th and 9th respectively, picking up €64.5k and €38.6k.
The interesting thing was that at the beginning of the final day, Soshnikov was one of the short-stacks. Under pressure to chip up or go, he caught a nice early double-up before getting involved in a massive hand that proved instrumental in his eventual push to the top. The hand in question was a 3-way one, which had Oleksii Khoroshenin and Olivier Busquet involved too. The flop was 10h,6d,6h, and Khoroshenin decided to push 60k more chips into the middle. Busquet got out of the way, but the other two players eventually got it all in on the river (the turn was the 9c and the river card was the Ks). It turned out Shoshnikov had a pair of 10s in his pocket for the flopped boat, while his opponent was only bluffing apparently, having tabled a 4s, 5s. He paid the ultimate prize for his mistake though: a few hands later, he was bounced. Jeff Rossiter’s elimination in ninth place set up the official 8-handed final table.
