EPT Prague High Roller – Marvin Rettenmaier Wins

The €10k High Roller of the EPT Prague played down to a winner the other day and that winner was poker pro Marvin Rettenmaier. The poker tournament pretty much blew away all expectations. 113 players coughed up the massive buy-in to take part in the green felt hostilities, creating a prize-pool of more than €1.1 million. Due to the size of the starting field, the event eventually ran a day longer than originally planned.
9 players returned to the tables on the final day of the High Rollers’ event. The survivors didn’t take long to jump at each-others’ throats. In fact, during the very first level of play, 4 of them bit the dust. Aubin Cazals as the first victim of the final table: he picked up €27.7k for his efforts. His demise came courtesy of Juha Helppi. Cazals was followed to the rail by Andrey Gulyy. Gulyy’s reward was €33.2k. Helppi was the one responsible for his elimination too.

Once on a roll, Helppi, who is known by the moniker “HellRaiser”, began to truly raise some hell. He locked on to Jason Mercier next. The two shoved all-in holding K,Qo and A,Ko respectively. Needless to say, Mercier didn’t manage to catch up, so he hit the rail as well. The next elimination was credited to Marvin Rettenmaier. The chips went into the middle preflop again, with Rettenmaier holding K,Qo against Marcin Wydrowski’s A,2o.
Sorel Mizzi fell next at Fabian Quoss’ hands, and then Rettenmaier swung into action again, disposing of Philippe Ktorza. The three-handed stage of the action lasted for nearly a level. Eventually, Quoss and Helppi got their chips into the middle, and even though he had the much better starting hand, Helppi was the one eliminated. The last hand of the event saw Rettenmaier’s A,2o best Quoss’ Kh,10h.
