EPT Prague Main Event – Day 1A Report

The first Day 1 flight of the EPT’s Prague Main Event went into the books on Thursday. The first day of the long-anticipated Main Event saw 389 players belly up to the tables. A total of 8 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which, 210 players were left standing. The one who finished with the lead was Tiberiu-Florian Georgescu of Romania, who had 191,1k chips bagged.
Another player who had an excellent day 1 A was Ari Engel, who finished second, with 172.8k chips to his name.
Engel was followed by another pretty well-known player: Ronny Woth of Germany, who had 166.4k chips bagged.
The high number of Day 1A participants took the organizers by surprise: the Hilton Prague’s Congress Hall proved too small to accommodate all comers, and thus the action spilled out into the lobby, but no one was complaining.

PokerStars’ Johnny Lodden was one of the main protagonists of Day 1A: he was involved in one of the most interesting pots, which – unfortunately for him – ended up claiming his tournament life. The board was reading 5d,3h,7c,4c,4s, and Lodden pushed all-in, holding a 6d, 7d for the straight. Unfortunately for him, he found himself on the receiving end of a perfect hand, when an opponent made the call tabling a 3d, 4d for the rivered boat.
Lodden wasn’t the only notable sent packing on Day 1A. He was followed to the rail by a litany of other big names. Despite the high attrition-rate, several of the well-known competitors made it to Day 2. Jonathan Little was among them. Michael Tureniec finished with 70.3k chips and Darren Elias had slightly more bagged. Steve O’Dwyer and Toby Lewis made the cut too.
Roberto Romanello wasn’t as lucky. He was bounced, together with Dan Kelly, Jeff Rossiter and Jake Cody.
