EPT Prague Main Event – Stephen Graner Wins

The EPT’s Prague Main Event finally wrapped up yesterday, and the one who walked away with the title and the €969k top prize – after he bested a record-breaking starting field of 1,107 players – was the US’s Stephen Graner, who went into the final day of action with a massive chip lead. Graner is not a newcomer to the live tournament circuit, although this latest win of his more than doubled his career tournament profits. This was the first time he played in an EPT Main Event, and he ended up collecting a healthy €969k, adding it to the $767.6k he had already amassed during his career.
Graner made no deals on his way to the top, and that was the reason why he took down such a massive prize. He bested Sweden’s Anton Bertilsson heads-up. The reward of the runner-up was €582.7k, quite a bit less than that of the winner.

The final day of the poker tournament saw 7 players return to the final table to decide the winner. France’s Remi Castaignon was the first one who put his tournament life onto the line holding a 7d, 6d. Anton Bertilsson made the call with an A,10o and the first elimination of the day went into the books when the flop gave him a pair of 10s. Castaignon’s reward was €129.3k.
The next one to bite the dust was Germany’s Bjorn Wiesler, who was followed in turn by Simon Matsson of Sweden. Fabio Sperling fell in 4th place, followed eventually by Jonathan Wong of the UK, in 3rd place. Wong picked up some €410k for his efforts.
