EPT San Remo – Day 2 report

460 players returned to action within the confines of the Casino San Remo on the 2nd day of the
EPT Main Event. Ruben Visser led the survivors chips-wise and there were plenty of other “name” players lurking in the shadows, sharpening their claws and getting ready to pounce. Nicholas Chouity was one of these players. By the time the action got called at the end of Day 2 though, both Chouity and Visser had sunk back into the field. They both moved on to day 3, but Visser finished with a below-average stack, placing a huge question mark over his future in the tournament. Georgios Manousos took over the chip lead heading into day 3. The lead had changed hands many times through the day though. At one point, shortly after the action had started, Carter Phillips committed on a board of J,8,5, holding K,J against Lorenzo Sabato’s pocket 8s. The turn and the river fell K,K to give Phillips the monster pot and with it, the provisional chip lead.
Sabato was not eliminated, but he had to take a break to calm down after the bad beat.
Phillips made good use of his large stack through the rest of the day and he eventually finished with close to 500k chips.
While many of the name players did well and advanced, scored of them were bounced, forced to head home with nothing to show for their efforts. Ivan Demidov, Terrence Chan, Pieter De Korver, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Marcin Horecki and Barry Greenstein were all eliminated on Day 2.
Victor Ramdin and David Vamplew survived the day, together with Maxim Lykov and Roberto Romanello.
Multiple NAPT winner Vanessa Selbst, who played excellent poker on Day 1 also remained in contention. Joe Cada and Ted Forrest will be back on Day 3 too.
164 players remained at the end of the day. With the money bubble set to 144th place, that means a few guys will still have to go home empty-handed.
