EPT San Remo Day 4 report

Who can put an end to Dragan Galic’s dominating run? This question was probably on the minds of the 32 Day 1-2-3 survivors who bellied up to the tables of the Municipal Casino in San Remo on Day 4 of the EPT’s Main Event there. Day 4 would see the final table reached, though the above question didn’t find an answer just yet.
The Croatian put in another dominating performance, and though he lost the chip lead early in the day, he regained it about midway through and never relinquished it from there on. He eventually finished Day 4 the same way he’d started it: in the chip lead.

The first elimination of the Day was Fabio Mazzarello, who decided to twist the hand of fate and went all-in on his A,Qo. The call was a no-brainer for Dennis Bejedal though, as he had pocket Ks. The A failed to land to bail Mazzarello out and he was done in 32nd. Bulent Karsli followed him to the rail as Matias Knaapinen and Benjamin Kang soon joined him. Kang put his tournament life on the line on a pair of 9s he picked up, but unfortunately for him Danilo D’Ettoris had pocket Qs in the same hand and made the call without hesitation. With the elimination of Steven Silverman (in 17th place), the stage was set for the final two tables.

Dragan Galic, who had had an uncharacteristically weak run up to that point, began to come to life and quickly ousted Stefan Raffay to get things into gear. Galic Had an Ac, Kc against Raffay’s A,5o and the board completed Galic’s nut flush to give him a much needed boost. Kati Jerney fell to William Reynolds in 15th place, and Galic disposed of Gianni Giaroni in 10th.
The final elimination, the one which would set the final table, took quite some tie to come about. Eventually, it was Pierre Neuville who became the bubble boy, eliminated by Gustav Sundell on a K,10 vs Q,Q match-up, where the board failed to land a K. As play ground to a halt, Galic was again on top of the provisional leader board having yet again built up a huge lead over the nearest competitor, Gustav Sundell.
Constant Rijkenberg also survived Day 4.
