EPT Snowfest – Day 2 report

Day 2 of the EPT’s Snowfest stop saw the field edge tantalizingly close to the money. Of the 482 players who had entered the two day 1 flights, 268 returned to action at the beginning of the day. When the action wrapped up, 81 players were still in contention, which means that only 9 more need to go before the money bubble bursts.
One of the most crucial hands of the day – at least from the point of view of the makeup of the eventual chip leader board – was the one that went down between Markus Golser and Phillip Meulyzer. Golser had pocket Qs on a board of 5s,8s,9h,3s and he shoved all-in on them firmly believing he had the upper hand. Meulyzer jumped on the opportunity though and called him with As, 4s. Golser was bounced and the chips collected from this pot pushed Meulyzer right to the top of the pops.

There was no shortage of “name” players at the beginning of the day. Several EPT champions were present, all hoping to add another title to their trophy-cases. For Anton Wigg, Salvatore Bonavena, Kevin MacPhee, Liv Boeree and Maxim Lykov, that hope would be short-lived though: they were all bounced on day 2.
Michael Tureniec is still in contention however. He struggled a bit early on, as he found himself bogged down in a stalemate of a battle with Yann Dion. Eventually, he managed to bounce Dion, winning an A,K vs Q,Q coin-flip. He lost some chips before the end of the day, but he survived on a decent stack.
He will be joined on Day 3 by another EPT champion: Sebastian Ruthenberg. Others who survived were: Cristian Dragomir, Russell Carson and Vladimir Geshkenbein.
PokerStars’ Luca Pagano and Alex Kravchenko will return to the tables as well.
The goal for day 3 is to play down to the final 24.
