Giacomo Maisto started the 3rd day of the
EPT Snowfest Main Event second in chips, more than 100k behind leader Phillip Meulyzer. At the end of the third day of action, Giacomo was sitting at the top with a stack of over 1.5 million chips. The early stages of the action on Day 3 were markedly influenced by the proximity of the money bubble. People were understandably more cautious than usual. 9 players needed to go before the survivors could relax knowing they wouldn’t have to go home empty handed, and one of the remaining EPT champions, Sebastian Ruthenberg fell among those 9. Ruthernberg went out on a classic coin-flip, shortly before the money bubble was reached. He picked up pocket Js and got all his chips into the middle against Morten Mortensen’s A,K.
At this level of play and this late in the
poker tournament, coin flips were the leading cause of eliminations. Michael Tureniec, the other EPT champion still in contention had one such coin-flip go his way with about six players remaining till the money bubble. His A,K went up against Tim Finne’s pocket Ks and managed to catch an A to win the hand. Thanks to that, he managed to sail past the bubble but found himself eliminated shortly after by Vladimir Geskenbein, and thus only took home €5,250.
Sander Benjamins became the last player to leave empty-handed, after he got the last of his chips into the middle on a pair of Qs against Martins Adeniya’s A,Q. He wasn’t exactly the bubble boy though. That honor befell Pontus Khosravi, but he didn’t leave empty-handed: he secured a consolation prize which consisted of a helicopter ride around the mountains surrounding the scene of the action: Saalbach Hinterglemm.
Russell Carson fell in 31st place too.
Giacomo Maisto made a lucky hand against Denis Murphy to vault into the chip lead.
