24 players returned to the tables of the
EPT Snowfest Main Event on the 4th day of the poker tournament, set to make it to the final table. Each and every one of them had €9k guaranteed, so all of them knew that they could play without the threat of going home empty-handed hanging above their heads.
Giacomo Maisto was the one who began the day with the largest stack, and even though he failed to achieve any sort of breakthrough on Day 4, he managed to take advantage of the size of his stack to make it past the hurdle and to secure his seat at the final table.
The first decisive move of the day came at the 30 minute mark, when Italy’s Alessandro Speranza pot committed himself after a few consecutive raises and re-raises against Phillip Meulyzer. The chips eventually went into the middle and Speranza tabled pocket rockets against Meulyzer’s pocket Js, appearing to be on his way to double up. The flop changed nothing and neither did the turn, but the Jc which fell on the river sealed the deal in Meulyzer’s favor, sending the heart-broken Speranza to the rail.
Belgium’s Kevin Vandersmissen must’ve sold a part of his soul to the devil, because he simply couldn’t lose a hand on Day 4. He made one set after the other, hitting straights and pushing through bluffs when needed. He locked horns with other large stacks and he kept winning, taking down copious amounts of chips every time. At one point during the day, he head 25% of the chips in play in his possession.
Cristian Tardea’s elimination in 10th place set the stage for the final table dash. It took 30 minutes for Manila Iemina to bust out in 9th as the official final table bubble boy. He had pocket 4s against Philip Meulyzer’s pocket rockets and he failed to improve.
