Even as the
EPT’s Season 10 Prague Main Event got going, the Eureka Poker Tour’s top tournament came to an end, having played down to a winner. That winner was Dmitry Holdeev of Germany, who bested Canada’s Ami Barer heads-up for the title and the €226.4k top prize. A couple of notables made it to the final table of this
poker tournament: Stephen Chidwick of the UK ended up in 3rd place, taking home €92.5k. Marcin Horecki from Poland finished 7th, pocketing a €30.5k reward for his efforts.
At the beginning of the final table action, Milan Simko of the Czech Republic was the official short-stack. He managed to stave off elimination enough that two other players bit the dust before him.
Simko was in fact the first player to draw blood at the final table: he sent Johannes Tiefbrunner packing in 8th place, thus securing a more than welcome lease on his tournament life. Tiefbrunner was rewarded with €21.7k. The next player to hit the rail was Horecki: his reward was €30.5k.
Simko was the one who followed Horeckki to the sidelines. His share of the prize-pool was €39.8k, almost double that of the 8th place man.
Mark Dalimore was the next victim. He was followed in turn by another local player: Jaroslav Peter.
Stephen Chidwick was sent home in 3rd place by the eventual winner of the tournament, Holdeev, whose pocket 7s bested the Brit’s K,10o. Chidwick’s elimination set up the heads-up stage of the main event.
Barer and Holdeev exchanged blows for a while during the home stretch of the event. In fact, their heads-up bout lasted for more than 2 hours.
The final hand of the event saw Barer push all-in, holding a Kd, 4h on a board containing two more hearts. With only the river card to come, Holdeev called with a two pair. The river was the Kd, and the tournament was over.
