European Poker Awards – Heinz, Cody Among Nominees

Every year, the European Poker Awards offer prizes and recognition to the previous year’s poker overachievers. Awards are handed out in no fewer than 9 different categories, covering everything from the best player of the year all the way to the Best European Event. 2011 has been a productive year for Europe poker-wise, in more ways than one. The various European poker events have broken attendance record after attendance record, raising never before seen interest. European poker players have dominated various live poker events, on the old continent as well as in other parts of the world.

The WSOP Main Event, the most prestigious poker event of the year, was won by a European too: Germany’s Pius Heinz walked away with the title, the $8.7 million top prize (on which he owes no taxes whatsoever to the German state) and the bragging rights which come with such feats of prowess.
Thanks to those accomplishments, the German found himself nominated in no fewer than 3 European Poker Awards categories.
The Brits are well-represented among the nominees too. Sam Trickett has definitely earned the right to be nominated: he generated about $4.5 million in tournament profits in 2011. He made his mark at the Partouche Poker Tour, the Main Event of which he managed to win for a €1 million haul. He did well in two high roller events at the Aussie millions too, winning one and finishing runner-up in the other.

Jake Cody has been nominated in two categories as well: he will be in the run for the Player of the Year title, as well as for the Best Tournament Performance one. He has done plenty to deserve the honor too: he took down his first WSOP bracelet in 2011, completing poker’s Triple Crown, and he managed to win one of the GUKPT Events as well. Chris Moorman, one of the players who have truly been on a heater through the entire year, got somewhat shortchanged: he’s only been nominated in the Internet Player of the Year category.
