First Bracelet Winner of 2014 WSOP Crowned

On Thursday, the first event winner of the 2014 WSOP picked up his bracelet. Roland Reparejo won the $500 Casino Employees event, after two long days of action and a 6-hand long sprint over the finish line on Thursday afternoon. The player Reparejo disposed of heads-up was Cory Emery, the chip leader after the first day of action, who had successfully turned his lead into a near-miss deep run.
The eventual winner and Emery were the only players left standing from an 876-player strong initial starting field, when the third day of the
poker tournament began. Reparejo had a 2-1 chip advantage at this point though, and he wasted no time capitalizing on it.
The last hand of the event saw Reparejo’s As,Qs best Emery’s Jh, 8h. The winner collected $82.8k for his efforts, and a WSOP bracelet, which is thus far the only one awarded this year.

Of course, being the only bracelet winner of the Series is not a position Reparejo will be able to retain for long, especially because no fewer than two other events drew close to their respective conclusions on Thursday.
Event #2 for instance, the $25k Mixed-Max NL Holdem one, played down to its final stage. The two players still in contention are Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mo. With the finals of the event still to come, the eventual runner-up is already guaranteed a $538.3k payday.
Event #3, the $1k PLO one, played down to 106 players. The one who finished with the largest stack was Steve Billirakis, who had some 961k chips bagged.
Event #4, the first one of the $1k
NL Holdem events, played down to 186 players, right past the money-bubble. Miguel Proulx finished with the lead in this one.
