FTOPS event #9, $500+$35 Heads-up NL Holdem report

Event #9 of the FTOPS IX was one putting a bigger accent on skill over luck than any other. The heads-up structure of the game would make sure that only the best players advanced indeed, and the $500+$35 coupled with the 1,332 participants created a prize-pool of $666k.
This way, the player left standing at the end of the day would pocket an impressive $115,884. Better known players present in Event #9 were: Chad Batista, Dan Martin, Ryan Daut and Johan Van Til.

The final eight players were matched up in 4 heads-up games to decide the winner. The first of the 4 matches was the one between Capprucio816 and Plz_Stop_Lookin (Jake Nelson). The win in this one went to Jake Nelson who finished Capprucio816 off on the 20/40 level. The final hand of the match-up saw all the money go in on the flop. Jake Nelson’s K,10 (which made a pair of 10s on the flop) survived Capprucio816’s pair of pocket 9s for the win.

In the next match Luie Sojo took a decent chip lead against Mario Puccini and hammered home his advantage on the 30/60 lvl.

Casey Jarzabek made short work of yahueyu next, after a little bit of see-sawing. The money went all-in on the turn as the board showed 4,6,2,K. Yahueyu had a flush draw, but Casey Jarzabek had two pairs. The river failed to fill Yahueyu’s flush and thus he too was eliminated.

rivercrime took care of William Hickey in the last of the final 8 matches.

Jake Nelson took on Casey Jarzabek and managed to eliminate him relatively early on, during the 15/30 level in the first semi-final. The money went all-in on the flop, as Jarzabek had a top pair matched up against Nelson’s top set. The turn and the river proved irrelevant in the outcome of the hand, and Nelson moved on.

The other semi-final, Luie Sojo beat rivercrime for a spot in the final.

The final saw Luie Sojo’s triumph over Jake Nelson on the 15/50 level, when the money went all-in preflop on an 8,8 vs K,K match-up. The board did bring about a pair of 10s but nothing more and rivercrime was done in second.
