Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS XXI wrapped up on Sunday with its Main Event playing down to a winner. The player who had his arm raised at the end of the last FTOPS XXI event was Yann Dion. The end of the Main Event marked the end of a poker festival, which awarded $13 million in prize-money over 35 online events. Numerous “name” pros earned deep finishes and even wins in the Series.
The Main Event featured a $640 buy-in, and it saw 4,766 players belly up to its tables. The resulting prize-pool was a truly impressive one: the registrants combined buy-ins for a $2,859,600 pool.
The original guarantee of the
poker tournament had been set to $1.5 million, but the resulting prize-pool nearly doubled that. Each player could re-enter as many as 3 times and indeed, many of them took advantage of this feature. As the field thinned down, it became obvious that the system gave an advantage to the skilled pro field: the tables were rife with “name” players. Steve Silverman, Sorel Mizzi, Dan Smith and Darren Elias were all in the running as the tournament approached its finish line. The final nine was quite pro-heavy as well. Besides the eventual winner, Sorel Mizzi, Steve Silverman, Maksim Viktorovich, Scott Augustine and Steve Tripp made the cut too.
Silverman was the first one to bite the dust: he ended up with a $31.4k reward. Tripp finished 8th for a $45.7k prize.
Mizzi made it all the way to 6th place, picking up $97.2k for his efforts.
In the end, Dion was left heads-up with a player known as CSWAMI. The two struck a deal, splitting the prize-pool and leaving $40k for the winner. Dion was the one who took home the $453.2k top prize.
