FTP Montreal Main Event – Day 1B Report

The officials behind Full Tilt Poker’s Montreal Main Event didn’t have to wait till the third and last day 1 flight of the event to see whether the C$1million guarantee would be covered. Day 1B of the
poker tournament saw 524 players belly up to the tables, handily covering the guarantee and putting an end to any jitters the organizers may have had in this respect.
A total of 149 players remained standing at the end of the day, with local player Guillaume Rivet leading the pack. Rivet managed to build up a solid lead by the time the action was called: he had 377.9k chips bagged as only one of the other competitors managed to reach the 300k mark.
Although he is not what one would call a “name” player, Rivet is not a newcomer to the world of high buy-in tournament action. In the 2001
WSOP’s $10k Omaha H/L Championship event, he finished 6th – not a shabby achievement at all. He also won the Eureka Poker Tour’s 2012 Prague High Roller.
As it often happens, most of Rivet’s chips landed in front of him during the last level of play. He got involved in a peculiar hand, which saw the 7d,9s,7c hit the board on a three-handed flop. Rivet made a bet and the other two guys called. The 8s landed on the turn, prompting one of the other players to bet. Rivet and the third guy called. The 7h on the river sealed the deal in Rivet’s favor, who had an 8h, 6h for the boat. One of the other players had made a straight.
Two of
Full Tilt Poker’s new representatives, Dermot Blain and Danielle Moon-Andersen finished among the survivors as well. Antonio Esfandiari and Gavin Smith also had their Day 2 tickets punched.
