Golden Nugget Joins New Jersey iGaming Soft-launch

New Jersey’s iGaming launch test-phase began on November 21, at 6 PM. The moment which may yet turn out to be one to remember in the history of online poker/gambling, came and went without causing too many ripples, although there were a few issues associated with it. A total of 6 Atlantic City-based, brick and mortar casino operators received licenses and thus the right to take part in the launch: The Trump Taj Mahal, the Tropicana, the Trump Plaza, Caesars Atlantic City, Borgata and Bally’s Atlantic City. There were quite a few notable absences among the licensees though. PokerStars’ land-based partner was not among them, and – perhaps even more surprisingly – neither was the Golden Nugget. In the case of the Golden Nugget though, there was a happy ending as they did get a late approval and they were eventually able to take part in the soft-launch.

The application of the Golden Nugget had apparently been denied on account of a technicality, something about the formatting of one of the pages of a report. According to Golden Nugget manager Tom Pohlman, the issue was such a minor one it would’ve been indeed appalling had the Nugget been shut out on its account.
The Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa was the first one to pick up the coveted approval. Borgata will go into battle wielding a Bwin platform. Caesars Interactive Entertainment New Jersey will use the already proven 888 platform for its poker room as well as the Amaya Gaming one for its casino games.
Tropicana Resort and Casino will be powered by GameSys, while Trump Plaza Associates will use Betfair.
The Trump Taj Mahal Associates will offer Ultimate Gaming software, while the Golden Nugget – the last-minute entry – will be powered by Bally Technologies.
