Good News for French Poker Players

It's a good day for poker players across the country, the country of France that is: The French government have passed a bill that will regulate online poker play!

It's always nice when another country chooses to join the online poker community, and right now it's the turn of France. The French parliament recently approved a bill that will at it's core both regulate and legalize online gaming in general, and included in that is of course online poker.

There are of course several aspects of the bill that are not only beneficial to the player but also to the country and not least of all its coffers. Under the new law online poker when operated with the licenses that are to be government granted will be taxed at 2%, creating quite a revenue for the powers that be. The regulation of online poker has not however been received with absolute joy as a particular amendment eliminates many of the larger online poker sites from applying for licenses.

The controversial amendment is that no poker site that with subsidiaries or operations in countries that count as tax havens may be granted a license. As several of the biggest poker sites in existence fit precisely into this category, the online poker scene in France may look slightly different to that in other parts of the world.

None-the-less, for players across France, this news can not be met with anything other than glee and excitement: Mesdames et Messieurs, welcome to online poker!
