GPI Changes – Gruissem Climbs

While the last time we took a look at the GPI’s Player of the year and Top 300 rankings, there were very few movers and shakers, this time around, there’s been quite a bit more bustle at the top of both lists. PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu retained his top spot in the Top 300 as well as in the PoY rakings, but the second place in the PoY was taken over by Ole Schemion, who climbed a spot. Mike Watson fell a spot into third place. The biggest climber in the PoY top 10 was without a doubt Bryn Kenney, who climbed 11 spots from outside the top 10 to land straight in 5th place.
Philipp Gruissem was one of the major climbers too: he advanced 6 places, landing in 4th place, right behind Watson.
Scott Seiver climbed 5 places too, into 8th, as all the other players in the top 10 lost ground. The biggest losers were Ravi Raghavan and Marvin Rettenmaier, who both dropped 3 places.
Ole Schemion’s climb into second place was due to his 20th place finish in the Master Classics of Poker Main Event. Gruissem on the other hand made headlines winning the WPT’s Alpha8 Event in St. Kitts. Kenney’s climb can also be attributed to the Master Classics of Poker, where he finished 12th in the Main Event and won the High Roller.

The Top 300 list saw Negreanu hold on to his top spot. Philipp Gruissem made nice headway here too though, climbing 2 spots into second. Gruissem’s ascent came at Marvin Rettenmaier and Ole Schemion’s expense, as they both dropped a place. The biggest climber in the top 10 of the Top 300 was Bryn Kenney again: he moved up 10 places, into 6th, right behind Shannon Shorr and David Peters. All the other players (including Jonathan Duhamel and Mike Watson) lost ground.
PokerStars is the top destination for online poker tournaments. Their weekend majors are second to none in the business.
