GPI Changes – Panka Tops PoY List

The Global Poker Index’s Player of the Year rankings, which saw little movement after Vanessa Selbst’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure performance propelled her right to the top, were finally shaken up last week. Indeed, even within the top 10, which had been static for weeks, several radical changes occurred. The change with the biggest impact was Dominik Panka’s move into first place. Panka climbed no fewer than 10 spots to push Vanessa Selbst down, taking her place at the top of the pops. Selbst’s drop didn’t even stop in second place. Dan Smith ended up in second and Selbst fell all the way to 3rd.
Alexander Denisov fell two places as well, so he’s currently 4th.

Even though Panka took over the lead with a pretty impressive 10-place jump, he was by far not the biggest climber within the top 6. Mustapha Kanit clinched that title, jumping into 5th place, after a monster 35-place climb. Marvin Rettenmaier did almost as well: he climbed 32 spots, right into 6th place. With this many climbers, there were some players within the top 10 who lost spots. One of these players was Mike McDonald, who fell 4 places, into 7th. Ole Schemion ended up losing 4 places as well: he’s currently 8th.
Marcin Wydrowski is currently 9th. He moved up 37 spots to break into the top 10. The player wrapping up the top 10 is Isaac Baron, who climbed some 7 places himself to land in 10th.

The GPI’s top 300 saw very little motion this week, in stark contrast with the PoY rankings. Ole Schemion held on to his lead, followed by PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu. Dan Smith was the only player who climbed a spot, landing in 4th place. Philipp Gruissem on the other hand dropped a spot, landing in 5th.
