GPI Movers and Shakers

The GPI is best known for its intriguing Player of the Year race, but there’s much more to it. The Global Poker Index ranks the best tournament players as well, and getting to the top of the pops on this list is an increasingly appreciated and respected achievement as well. Marvin Rettenmaier is the current leader of the poker tournament rankings, with 3,139.77 points to his name. His top position remained unchanged from the last update of the list.
Michael Mizrachi drew the most attention. The Grinder managed to break into the top 10 by climbing 4 positions and landing in 7th place, with 2,763 points to his name. Mizrachi has thus settled right ahead of Jason Mercier, who dropped 5 positions, and Joseph Cheong, who dropped 3. Mizrachi’s climb was attributed to his winning of the WSOP-C’s South Africa Main Event in February. It is interesting to know that Mizrachi had never before attained such a high GPI rank.
Philipp Gruissem moved upward as well: having gained 3 positions, he landed in 2nd place.
Bryn Kenney also made a bit of progress: he too climbed 3 places, to land in 5th place. Steve O’Dwyer is the one wrapping up the top 10.

Despite their high profile nature, none of the above said players were among the biggest movers and shakers.
Michel Abecassis broke into the top 300 for the first time: he landed straight in 254th place, with 1,186 GPI points to his name.
Calvin Anderson and Daniel Stern are among the top 300 first timers too, among scores of others. With so many new entries, some of the players previously in the top 300 had to drop out. Thiago Nishijima was one of those who left the 300, together with Guillaume Darcourt and Benny Spindler.
