GPI Movers and Shakers – Noah Schwartz

With the end of the year ever closer, it makes more and more sense these days to analyze various player rankings. The GPI has taken upon itself to deliver accurate and regularly updated rankings of the world’s
best poker tournament players, based on their actual results at the green felt. While their player of the year list has been quite categorically dominated by Dan Smith for the last few months, the GPI rakings actually involve no fewer than 300 players, so while there have been few changes in the top ranks lately, there’s plenty to keep an eye on further down the ranks.
There are always players who have just managed to break into the top 300 for the first time. Others drop out, still others rise and some sink in the rankings. One of this week’s biggest rising stars was Noah Schwartz, who made his way into 21st place, climbing a massive 44 places, thanks to his WPT Jacksonville Main Event win, which landed him a prize of $402.9k.
The player who made the biggest progress upwards though was Hans Winzeller, who climbed 83 positions, right into 110th place. The achievement responsible for his upward move was his 4th place finish in the WPT’s Jacksonville Main Event, which Schwartz won and which gave Winzeller a 106.8k prize.
Steve Barshak, who finished 4th in the WPT’s Copenhagen Main Event, climbed 80 positions as well. Others who rose in the rankings were Darryll Fish, Tyler Patterson, Byron Kaverman and Matt Waxman.
The biggest drop was that of Jan Peter Jachtmann, who fell 69 places into 298th. Chris Tryba didn’t do particularly well either: he dropped 52 places, to end up in 264th. Guillaume Darcourt was the second biggest loser: he dropped 62 places, into 223rd spot.
