GPI PoY Race – Volpe Back in the Lead

The Global Poker Index’s Player of the Year race is hot all year long and hanging on to the top spot for more than a week is a rather impossible feat for those who manage to get to the top in the first place. Mike Watson had led the rankings for about a week, but his time in the spotlight came to an end a few days ago when Paul Volpe reclaimed the top spot.
The achievement which pushed Volpe to the top yet again was his 27th place finish in the WPT’s Seminole Hard Rock Showdown Main Event, an effort which earned him a $16.5k prize. While it may not seem like much on its own, the move was enough to nudge him up a bit, taking his GPI PoY score total to 567.65 points. Watson fell a position into second. Dan Shak, who was in 3rd place, managed to hang on to his position, being the only player in the top 10 who didn’t move up or down.
Micah Rashkin was by far the biggest mover within the top 10: he shot into 4th place, climbing a massive 8 positions. His spectacular climb came as a result of his Berlin Cup High Roller win, which earned him a $138.1k prize. That victory was the second
poker tournament Rashkin has won this year. His other win came at the Aussie Millions, where he won a $5k side event.
Rashkin’s massive climb sent all the other players within the top 10 and under 4th place one position down. Thus, the player currently bringing up the rear of the top 10 is Yury Gulyy, who is 10th with 355.17 points.
The biggest overall upward leap this week was Kevin Eyster’s, who climbed 562 places, right into 66th.
