GPI Reset – Vanessa Selbst Leads

With the start of the New Year, the GPI’s Player of the Year race has been obviously reset, allowing a completely new cast of characters to shoot into the lime-light. The top 300 remained of course, because that list doesn’t have a year-dependant component.
The new leader of the GPI PoY list is Vanessa Sebst, who kicked off her year with a stellar
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure run yet again. Although this time she failed to win any of the major events in which she took part, she played well and made deep runs every time. She took 3rd place in the High Roller as well as the Super High Roller, and she made the money in the Main Event as well. Her total score reached the $1.4 million mark and that alone would be enough to justify her presence at the top.
She didn’t do badly last year either: she ended up in 5th place.
Second on the 2014 PoY list is Alexander Denisov, followed by Mike McDonald in third place. Ole Schemion and Greg Merson are both there as well, together with Vladimir Schemelev and Dan Smith. At this point, it is safe to say that the rankings have mostly been influenced by the PCA alone.
Ole Schemion’s PCA antics lent the German enough momentum to keep him on top of the top 300 list. He has 3916.9 points, enough to edge Daniel Negreanu’s 3,846. Schemion made the final tables of the PCA’s High Roller and Super High Roller, and he made the money in the Main Event too. Negreanu on the other hand didn’t really make a splash at the PCA. Marvin Rettenmaier climbed a spot into 3rd, as Philipp Gruissem fell to 4th.
Dan Smith, Ravi Raghavan and Mike McDonald were three other players who made their way into the top 10 thanks to their PCA results.
