GPI Top 300 – O’Dwyer Makes Top 10 Again

The Global Poker Index has been generating more and more interest lately, as people actually seem to care about the weekly top 300 tournament players lists they release, and even players like Daniel Negreanu have expressed their desire to be featured as high up in such rankings as possible. Poker players are highly competitive people, so seeing their name in the top 10 of a prestigious ranking system like the GPI top 300 must indeed give them a great deal of satisfaction. One player who was able to taste that satisfaction this week was Steve O’Dwyer, who managed to break into the top 10 of the GPI ranking again.
He was in fact the only player to register any sort of upward movement within the top 10, gaining two positions and pushing Igor Kurganov and PokerStars pro Bertrand Grospellier one place down. The two above said players were the only other movers within the top 10 as the top 7 remained frozen, with Jason Mercier still leading the pack. Joseph Cheong is still second, and Daniel Negreanu is quite probably extremely proud of the fact that he is still 3rd.

The relative stillness of the top 10 was an accurate reflection of the state of affairs further down the ranks as well: there were only 5 players who managed to break into the top 300 this week: Raul Paez Corral landed in 232nd place, while Max Silver made his way into 251st. Max Silver’s rise was no doubt due to his Galway Poker Festival performance, where he managed to cash in 3 events. His deepest run came in the €1k Heads-Up Tournament, where he finished 4th.
Jarred Solomon, Andrey Pateychuk and Sergio Espina were the other players who advanced into the top 300.
