GPI Update – Mercier Still on Top

Jason Mercier has set himself some rather ambitious poker tournament goals for 2013 and thus far he seems to be on the right track indeed towards accomplishing those goals. His tournament dominance is best illustrated by his 1st place in the GPI’s top 300 list, a position he has managed to hold onto for a few weeks now. This week, he even managed to extend his lead a little: he now has a total of 3,447.6 GPI points, well ahead of his fellow
PokerStars pro Marvin Rettenmaier’s 3,069.
Mercier was indeed active lately: he finished second in the EPT’s Monte Carlo Grand Final Super High Roller, taking down a handsome prize and taking his overall 2013 tournament profits above the $1.4 million mark. Mike Watson is currently 3rd on the list. He moved up a spot at Steve O’Dwyer’s expense, who has been pushed down a place. Ole Schemion moved upward as well: he gained 2 positions, landing in 6th place and sending both Bryn Kenney and Bertrand Grospellier one position down.
The biggest mover within the top 10 was Paul Volpe though, who has just managed to break into the top echelon for the first time. He moved up 3 places, landing in 9th, right above Andrew Lichtenberger who wraps up the current top 10.
Volpe has won two
EPT Monte Carlo side events recently, to which his 3-place jump can be attributed. The interesting thing about Volpe - who has lately been thoroughly dominating the live tournament scene – is that he was driven to play live events by online poker’s Black Friday, which denied him access to
online poker sites.
The biggest mover in the GPI top 300 was Jesse Martin, who climbed a massive 79 places to land in 217th. Salman Behbehani moved up 67 places.
