GPI Update – Raghavan, Smith Move Up

The Global Poker Index’s Player of the Year top 10 remained unchanged this week, despite the fact that there were plenty of high buy-in tournaments rolling on in various areas of the globe, most prominently in New Jersey’s Atlantic City. None of the PoY front runners were involved in any of the top action though, so none of them earned credits to induce a bit of movement in the ranks.
Vanessa Selbst is still in the lead, with 383.14 points, followed by Alexander Denisov, Mike McDonald and Ole Schemion.
Greg Merson, Vladimir Schemelev, Dan Smith, Antoine Saout, Fabian Quoss and Alex Bilokur all maintained their previous positions within the top 10.
Like the PoY list, the top 300 remained unchanged at least as far as the top 4 places were concerned. Ole Schemion held on to the top spot, followed by
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu in second. Marvin Rettenmaier and Philipp Gruissem are still 3rd and 4th.
Below 4th place, the story was different though as far as mobility was concerned. Dan Smith moved up into 5th place from 6th, a move which resulted in Vanessa Selbst dropping to 6th from 5th. Ravi Raghavan made a much more spectacular move: he shot up 3 places, from 10th into 7th, sending everyone now below him one place down. Paul Volpe, Mike McDonald and Brynn Kenney were the losers of Raghavan’s upward move. The interesting thing was that despite all the moving and shaking, no new players managed to break into the top 10.
There were quite a few players who broke into the top 300 for the first time though. Andrey Pateychuk for instance, landed in 202nd place. JC Tran made the move into the top 300 too: he landed in 232nd. Alexander Queen, Joao Vieira and Nicolas Cardyn were also among those who ascended the ranks into the top 300.
