GUKPT Grand Final – Kevin Allen Wins

The final day of the GUKPT’s Grand Final saw 13 players belly up to the tables looking to play down to a winner. The interesting thing was that Kevin Allen, the player who would walk away with the title in the end, was last in chips at this stage of the
poker tournament. Allen then proceeded to pull off a superb comeback, beating all the odds and eventually walking away with the £158.7k top prize. He defeated Rudolph Fourie heads-up. Fourie ended up with £105.8k, the only other player who finished with a 6-figure haul.
Having started the day as the official short-stack, Allen didn’t waste any time putting his tournament life onto the line in an attempt to chip up, and chip up he did: it only took him about 5 minutes to double up. By the time the final table was reached, Allen was in a much better shape. The first victim of the home stretch of the event was Pratik Ghatge, who picked up £11k for his 9th place. Ghatge was followed to the rail by Will Kassouf, who earned £15.6k for his efforts, and Thomas Bichon, rewarded with £20k for his 7th place.
Richard Kellett was the next victim of the game, followed to the rail by Scott Margerson. The two picked up £25.9k and £31.7k respectively.
Ben Jackson was bounced in 4th place for £41.2k.
Matt Davenport’s elimination in 3rd place set up the heads-up stage of the poker tournament. Davenport was sent packing by Allen, after his 9, 7o fell to the eventual winner’s A,Ko. Davenport’s share of the prize-pool was £70.6k.
When the heads-up action started, the two remaining players were relatively even in chips. Allen shot out to a 2-1 lead though soon and he never looked back. The final hand of the event saw Allen’s K,Qo best Fourie’s Js, 8s.
