Hansen drops close to $1 million to Dwan

It’s not news to anyone who eats, drinks and breathes poker that Tom Dwan is having an extremely tough year. He’s rumored to be nearly $4 million down since the beginning of the year and despite the flying start he got off to in his $1 million challenge, he’s slowly but surely losing control of the action there. Perhaps he should’ve picked a different challenge opponent, as Patrik Antonius is proving to be a nut that gets harder and harder to crack with every hand the two of them play.

Apparently though, all is not bitter for the New Jersey native. After having dropped a jaw-dropping $300k to Patrik Antonius at the challenge tables, durrrr headed over to Gus’s den and he exacted some sweet revenge on the Great Dane, relieving him of almost $1 million by the end of their session.
The two played at a $500/$1,000 table at Full Tilt and Dwan began winning big pots almost as soon as they started. The biggest pot of the session was massive $259,596 one and it was - of course – shipped Dwan’s way. Hansen hit a set of Qs on the flop of that hand, and the money went all-in with Dwan holding a pair of Qs and the nut flush draw.
Having consumed all his bad luck at the challenge tables against Antonius, Dwan hit his flush on the turn and secured the pot. Hansen did fight back in a hand in which his Ks and Js got the better of Dwan’s Js and 9s for a $200,000 pot. Out of the 10 monster pots that developed during the session, 8 found their way into Dwan’s stack, who is now only approximately $2.2 million in the red this year, still plenty of reason for him to feel jittery about his challenge match.

The stakes in his $1 million challenge series may be higher than many would think. With more and more people beginning to call him a reckless gambler, a win in the challenge may be Dwan’s only chance to prove his doubters wrong.
