Hansen Opens Up About Down/Upswings

Gus Hansen, one of the most charismatic pros on the live poker circuit, has been hitting extremely taxing losing streaks for the last few years, and even though he does go through a major upswing every now and then too, the minuses seem to far outweigh the plusses as far as his
online poker bankroll is concerned. His most recent downswing took him from being one of the biggest online Omaha Hi/Lo winners to being one of the biggest losers, several millions in the hole for the year.
Once again a
Full Tilt Poker pro, Hansen took part in the UKIPT’s Galway Poker Festival and he shared some of his thoughts with reporters there. While he did manage to win one of the early side-events, he was bounced early from the Main Event.
In Galway, he made a point out of playing in as many of the Full Tilt-sponsored events as possible, an approach which led him into pretty unfamiliar territory, playing in one of the €40 events, where players couldn’t believe Gus Hansen was actually sitting next to them.
Besides chiming in on the Galway venue, Hansen also expressed a couple of thoughts in regards to overlays, like the massive €140k one seen in the Main Event. He said they were definitely good for the players, but not that great for the industry in general and especially for the organizers of events like the Galway Festival who had businesses to run.
Hansen admitted he was getting frustrated lately on account of his downswings and he was feeling like he was missing something, feeling a tad outdated and he was struggling with questions regarding his ability to keep up with the game. Some of these questions – he said – were keeping him up at night. Despite his positively abysmal online results, he said he wasn’t doing that badly overall, due to other venues where he was also playing.
