Heart-Warming Christmas Story – Cabbie Returns $300k to Poker Player

Las Vegas is widely known as Sin City, but that designation may have to be changed – at least as far as the city’s taxi drivers are concerned – after a Christmas story worthy of a movie or a short novel.
A
poker player – who has thus far remained unidentified, and may indeed remain so – took a ride in a cab driven by Gerardo Gamboa. When he got out, he left something behind, something that many taxi-faring folks do quite often indeed. This personal possession of the said player however – an inconspicuous-looking brown paper bag – was special due to its contents: $300k in cash.
Now, anybody finding a $300k chunk of change in the back seat of his car may be tempted to keep it, but not Gamboa apparently. Obviously not the kind of person to allow his judgment to be clouded by the sight of a large pile of money, Gamboa decided to contact the player in question and to return the money to its rightful owner. The driver said that his dignity was not for sale and that was just the way he felt he had to handle the situation.
The driver also said that he hoped his deed would swing the public opinion to view the taxi drivers toiling away in the streets of Sin City in a more favorable light, adding that he saw the opportunity as his only one to make a difference in this respect.
Whether the unnamed poker player rewarded the cabbie in any way isn’t known, what is known though is that the company he works for gave him a $1k reward and a voucher for a steak dinner for two. One can pretty much assume however that the mysterious player involved in the incident was more than happy to hand him a well-deserved reward as well.
