Day 3 of the PartyPoker Premier League saw two heats go down, two heats which filled two seats at the 6-player final table. Heat 5, the first of the day, saw fresh WSOP Main Event Champion Peter Eastgate continue where he left off a few weeks ago. He thoroughly dominated the heat, as a result of which he moved into 2nd place overall behind leader JC Tran.
A very select field slowly fell apart at the hands of the Champion as Annette Obrestad was forced out without having earned a single point. Juha Helppi was next, sent to the rail in possession of two precious points. Nenad Medic earned 3 points, as he was followed to the rail by Victoria Coren who mustered 4 points this day.
JC Tran was left to battle it out against Eastgate, who had a huge chip lead (about 90-10%) when the heads up stage began. Much like in the WSOP’s Main Event, Eastgate let his lead ebb away apparently carelessly, and then, after having flashed the glimmer of hope for his opponent, he came back through a lucky draw to close the game out.
Having started with a huge handicap, Tran fought back and almost managed to tie the game, only to see it all slip away on a hand in which he shoved all-in in possession of the best hand.
Eastgate’s K,3 made short work of Tran’s A,7 as a K fell on the flop.
The second heat of the day featured a line-up which needs no further introduction. Phil Hellmuth, Andy Black, Tony G, Dave Ulliott, Roland De Wolfe, and Tom Dwan duked it out for the points in a true battle of the titans.
Dave Ulliott was the first victim of the heat, heading to the rail with zero points. Tony G came next having secured 2 points, followed by Andy Black with 3. Tom Dwan, the man responsible for all those eliminations, busted out next with 4 points.
The heads-up battle between Hellmuth and De Wolfe came down to a A,Q vs K,10 match-up in which Hellmuth caught a lucky K on the river to secure the win.
