Isildur1 becomes Pokerstars pro

For online poker players and poker fans, Isildur1 needs no introduction. For the rest of you out there: he is an online poker player who took the nosebleed stakes world by storm in 2009, when he charged the top ranks of the high stakes community at Full Tilt Poker, winning millions from players like Tom Dwan. Eventually, he fell to the combined forces of the Cardrunners pros, dropping around $4 million to Brian Hastings during a single session. What was so special about Isildur1? Besides the fact that he set a record for the largest ever online poker pot which is likely to stand for quite a while, nobody ever knew who he really was. All people knew about him was that he was from Sweden. He has always been an anonymous man of the people that the community loved to root for.

He now seems to have signed with PokerStars though, and that will likely result in the end of his “mystery” status, which may well destroy his overall appeal too. When asked why he signed with PokerStars, Isildur1 said he did because of Pokerstars’ position as the largest online poker operation and because he felt it would be an honor to join people like Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Lodden and Dario Minieri at Team PokerStars pro.
It remains to be seen whether this new twist in his story will land the Swede where he hasn’t really been able to climb back on his own since his legendary meltdown.
He also said he wanted to take the opportunity to focus on his live game.

Isildur1 will first step up to the plate as a PokerStars pro on December 19, when the SuperStar Showdown kicks off. The Showdown consists of a series of high stakes heads-up matches, with minimum stakes of $50/$100.
