ISPT Wembley Main Event Update

Even as the 2013 WSOP is making its first waves is Las Vegas, the ISPT’s Wembley Main Event reached its second day 2 flight. A total of 761 players put up the €3k buy-in, which was at least somewhat disappointing for the organizers, given that they had guaranteed a €1 million payday to the eventual winner. What that basically means at this stage is that they will have to come up with an additional €589,060 to cover their €1 million promise.
High profile competitors from the UK were present in great numbers. Basically, everyone who didn’t already leave for the
WSOP put up the buy-in. The French showed up in decent numbers as well, while the Scandinavians didn’t really bother. Ramzi Jelassi, Michael Tureniec and Peter Eastgate were the only representatives from the Norse lands.
The organizers might’ve expected the Irish to show up in great numbers as well, and if that was indeed the case, they must’ve been extremely disappointed as only Jude Ainsworth coughed up the buy-in.
Michael Mizachi, one of the ISPT’s official representatives, played as well and he kicked off Day 2B in outstanding fashion. He went up against an opponent who had an overpair and he flopped a set of deuces for the win. At one point in the event he had around 150k chips, but he then hit a few snags, bled some chips away and he was eventually bounced when his pocket Ks fell to an opponent’s pocket rockets.
Liz Lieu, another ISPT ambassador, managed to survive Day 2B, despite the fact that she was forced to share tables with some difficult competitors through the day. James Akenhead was one of the players Lieu had to contend with. Akenhead finished with just 44.7k chips though, having had more than 100k chips to his name at one point in the
poker tournament.
