John Juanda Wins 2015 EPT Barcelona Main Event

The EPT's 2015 Barcelona Main Event turned out to be a special one for a number of reasons: first of all, it was the first event of season 12 of the European Poker Tour. Secondly and perhaps more importantly: it became the biggest EPT Main Event in history, having drawn a starting field of 1,694 players and thus clearly leaving the previous record, the PCA's season 7 haul of 1,560 players, in the dust. Another peculiarity about the season 12 Barcelona Main Event was the fact that its winner was a high-profile pro: the one who walked away with the trophy, the prize-money and the bragging rights was none other than John Juanda.
Indeed, the victory earned Juanda another sizable chunk of change: the €1.02 million he picked up here rounded up his lifetime tournament profits to more than $16.7 million, landing him in 10th place on the all-time tournament earners list.

The accomplishment wasn't Juanda's first EPT adventure either: back in 2010, he finished second in the London Main Event of the Tour. The last day of action saw Juanda belly up to the tables behind the 5th largest stack. The start-of-the-day chip leader, Denys Shafikov ran out of steam in 4th place. The three players who remained in contention, Juanda, Steve Warburton and Frederik Jensen, made a deal. That deal allowed the eventual runner-up, Warburton, to climb over the €1 million mark too. Jensen ended up in 3rd place, with ~€940k. Above and beyond the financial benefits, the win also resulted in 2,160 Player of the Year Points for Juanda.
