The $10k Chip King is basically a freeroll which takes place on every Sunday of the month. In order to qualify for the freeroll, players need to opt in manually and to generate at least 100 points. Those who fulfill the requirements get to play in a series of tournaments the prize-pools of which increase gradually.
The first week featured a $1k prize-pool, the second week offered $1.5k and the third week’s share was $2.5k. The final week of the promotion – for which players can still qualify – offers a prize-pool of $5k, which is indeed half of the $10k total value of the promotion.

The qualification period of the 4th Chip King freeroll hasn’t started yet, so there’s still plenty of time for new players to get in on the action. The freeroll at the end of the 4th week of the promotional period takes place on April 27.
The interesting thing about the promotion is that while players only have to earn 100 points to make it into the freeroll, their starting stack there will in fact be influenced by the number of poker points they generate.
Those who only sneak in on 100-250 points, will have a starting stack of only 300 chips. Those more diligent, who earn between 250 and 500 points, will start with 500 chip stacks. Those who accumulate between 500 and 1k chips get to start with a 1k stack, while those who exceed the 1k point mark, will start with a custom-sized stack, depending on the exact number of their VIP points.
The bottom line is that the promotion encourages players to play as much as they can and it rewards volume.
