The 63 players who made the money and survived to do battle in Day 4 of the LA Poker Classic, wasted little time to rip into each other as the game kicked off. Day 3 chip leader Kofi Farkye had a pretty bad day, at the end of which he no longer was a contender.
Mike Sowers though, who had pretty much crept along in the shadow of the previous 3 days’ chip leaders, managed to hang on and finished the day in 10th place eventually with a stack of 626,000 chips.
The lead was taken over by Chris Ferguson, who amassed a staggering 1,721,000 chips. Other notable players in Day 4’s field were Paul Wasicka, Hoyt Corkins, Erica Schoenberg, and Bertrand Grospellier.
The money bubble had burst on Day 3 so there were no reasons for players to hold back. They jumped right into the middle of the action just as soon as the tournament started and several short-stacks were sent flying to the rail early on.
One of these short-stacks was David Daneshgar, who had been fortunate enough to take down a huge pot on the last hand of Day 3 to propel himself into Day 4. His luck no longer held though as he became the first victim of Day 4.
Nick Binger, Dan Shak and David Pham found the rail too, followed soon by Men Nguyen. Bertrand Grospellier busted out in 32nd, after a hand in which his J,J failed to stand up to Binh Nguyen’s A,Q which hit the nut flush on the river.
Kofi Farkye’s day came to an end after he first took a huge hit from Chris Ferguson and was then ejected in 31st place.
Paul Wasicka managed to outlast him, but he too was eventually sent to the rail in 28th.
Hoyt Corkins was soon gone from the tables as well. Nancy Todd Tyner, the last woman left in the field was the last elimination of Day 4, sent to the rail by Mike Sowers.
20 players survived Day 4 and will do battle on Day 5 for the final table spots.
