LA Poker Classic Day 5 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Fri, 2009-02-27 08:07

Day 5 of the LA Poker classic saw only 20 players belly up to the tables, the remnants of an initial starting field of nearly 700.
Chris Ferguson started the day in the chip lead, but he took a couple of hits and soon found himself engulfed in the middle of the pack. He did manage to bounce back though, and he eventually secured his place at the televised final table where only the top 6 players would gain access.

The first elimination of the day was Billy Pilossoph, who pushed all-in on his Q,Jo only to be called by Chris Karagulleyan with a K,J of hearts.
The table only brought about a bunch of bricks, and thus Karagulleyan’s hand held up. This win was the beginning of a climb up the chip leader board which would end up propelling Chris Karagulleyan to the lead at the end of the day.

Mat Woodward was the following victim of the attrition, followed in turn by Xuan Nguyen who fell 18th. Nick Schulman wielded a pretty healthy stack to start the day with, yet over a mere two hands he got felted, sent to the rail by Mike Sowers.
Danny Lu shoved all-in on his A,Jo and ran right into Mike Sowers’ A,Kd. As the board failed to produce a miracle, Lu was eliminated in 15th.
Peter Feldman fell in 24th, then Jeremy Kottler hit the rail in 13th.
Zach Hyman ran his pocket tens into Blake Cahail’s pocket rockets later on to bust out in 12th. Donnie D’auria, who had earned his Main Event seat through a freeroll, turned the free ride into a $64k prize, which he collected after being eliminated by Payman Arjang in 11th.

Tam Ly busted out in 10th, so the actual final table was set after his departure. Three more players would have to go though, before the televised final table would be set.
Mark Bryan became the first of these players, followed to the rail by Payman Arjang and Blake Cahail.
The 6 final table participants are: chip leader Chris Karagulleyan, Chris Ferguson, Cornel Andrew Cimpan, Mike Sowers, Binh Nguyen and Pat Walsh.
