LAPT Grand Final Day 1A report

The Grand Final of the Latin American Poker Tour has kicked off at Mar Del Plata in Argentina, and no fewer than 140 contenders bellied up to the tables on Day 1A.
The field featured some big names as well: tennis legend turned poker poster-face Boris Becker was there, as well as 2003 WSOP Big Dance winner Chris Moneymaker.
Fabian Ortiz, a previous LAPT stop winner and Maria Mayrinck of Team PokerStars were also in attendance.

The action got off to a quick start and never relented. The 140 player-field was down to 27 survivors by the day’s end. Boris Becker was among the early-bust outs. The German never managed to get anything going, and he slowly bled his stack away. With his back to the wall, he tried to make a stand with his A,2. He got called with 10,4 which meant he had had the lead before the flop, but the first set of three community cards gave his opponent a pair of 10s. Becker failed to get anything together on the turn or the river and he was done.
Becker’s wife, Lilly Kerssenberg busted out later at the table where Chris Moneymaker played.

Maria Mayrinck didn’t survive Day 1A either. She shoved all in with her Ac, 10c on a flop of Jc, 7c, 3 which gave her the nut flush draw. She got a caller who had a pair of threes in his pocket and had made a set on the flop. The turn and the river failed to bring the much awaited club to bail Mayrinck out and she too headed to the rail.

Of the army of models and actresses that took part on the LAPT Grand Final’s Day 1A, it was Geraldine Neumann who found the path to the rail first.
She was soon followed by Angelita Feijo, and Vanessa Machado.
Chris Moneymaker found it difficult to get things rolling early on, but soon got some traction and began to advance nicely up the chip leader board before dropping it all close to the end of the day.
The Day 1A chip lead was eventually clinched by Jaime Ateneloff of Uruguay, followed by Argentina’s Eduardo Santi.
