LAPT Mar del Plata Grand Final – Day 2 report

The 62 players who survived the two fast paced opening days of the LAPT’s Grand Final in Mar del Plata bellied up to the tables of the Casino Central, hell bent on working the field down to the final 9 on Day 2 of the event.
Robin Chesne, the chip leader of Day 1b started Day 2 with the overall lead.
At the end of the day, it would be Dominik Nitsche in the lead though, and a pretty solid lead at that. Day 2 action made several more casualties among ‘name’ players in addition to the havoc that Day 1a and Day 1b had wreaked on their ranks, but one professional, Leo Fernandez of team PokerStars appeared quite unstoppable.
Having finished as a short-stack on Day 1, he managed to get his act together and constantly accumulate chips through Day 2, to finish among the 9 survivors and to make the final table.
Maria Stern, who had survived her husband Max, ran out of steam on day two and was eventually sent to the rail by Jose Nadal.
Alex Brenes, the last of the three Breneses who registered for the event, put on a show of short-stack poker prowess. First, he almost bit the felt at the hands of Juan Pablo Reverter, shortly after the action got going, then he proceeded to win no fewer than 6 all-ins to spring right back among the contenders. It was Dominik Nitsche who finally put an end to the Alex Brenes show, and eliminated him on an 8,8 vs A,2 match-up.
The money bubble was set to 27th position, and it was Eduardo Oskar Camie who ended up fulfilling the unfortunate role of bubble-boy. By the time the bubble had burst, Robin Chesne, the former chip leader was among the short-stacks. The bustle following the money bubble claimed his tournament life too, as he got his pocket J’s cracked by Pat Van Dijk’s K,8o. 15 players made it to the dinner break and the returning field would soon be thinned down to 9. Dominik Nitsche clinched the chip lead at the end of the day, and he secured a huge advantage for Day 3 over second place Sergio Farias. Jason Skeans finished in third.
