LAPT Punta del Este Day 2 report

The massive field of 327 players who bellied up to the poker tables of the Mantra Casino and Resort in Punta del Este, Uruguay on Day 1 of the LAPT’s Main Event, was reduced to 64 for Day 2. The second day of poker hostilities saw that field shrink further, as the money bubble and then the final table was reached.
At the end of the day, it was Norway’s Karl Hevroy who stood atop the provisional leader board with a huge stack of nearly 1 million poker chips. Mexico’s Angel Guillen was second with 572,000 chips.
At the end of Day 2, the final table was set, as 9 players will do battle for the first prize of $283,500 on Day 3.

The money bubble was set for 36th place and it was reached on Day 2, but not before several ‘name’ players were eliminated. Alex Brenes was among the players to fall before the money was reached and so was Germany’s Maximilian Heinzelmann.
Leonardo Emperador, who played in the final table of the LAPT’s Mexico event a few days earlier also headed to the rail before the bubble burst.
An interesting Day 2 story was that of Oliver Rowe. The Canadian started Day 2 in the chip lead, after he’s secured a narrow margin on Day 1. He was eliminated in 37th place though, right on the bubble, and thus went from leader to bubble buy in just a few hours. After his elimination, play loosened up a bit. It took only two hours for a whole bunch of players to head to the rail. The post-bubble spree of eliminations was headed by Spain’s Alberto Andres Font Rytzner who bit the dust in 26th place. He too had finished Day 1 on a large stack, just a tad behind Rowe.

The new chip leader, Karl Hevroy set the tone late in the day by personally eliminating the last three players. Octavio Bernardini of Brazil fell in 12th place, when Hevroy’s A,Q made top pair on the flop against him.
Local players Alejandro Bonanata and Rommer Prado were eliminated in 11th and 10th places respectively.
