38 players returned to the green felt on Day 2 of the Latin American Poker Tour’s San Jose stop. These players were all that was left after a fast and furious Day 1, during which British pro Rob Woodcock took a firm chip lead, and many “name” pros from the star-studded lineup had been eliminated.
Carter Gill, Jon Van Fleet and Max Stern were all among the survivors ready to come out swinging as soon as the bell rang.
The beginning of Day 2 saw some fast action with the short-stacks up to their usual do or die antics. Max Stern became the victim of this early attrition as he got into a three-way pot with Carter Gill and Maurice Molina. He shoved all-in preflop with a Ac,Kc, and got called by both above named opponents. The board fell Q,6,A,9 all diamonds, which Suited Gill just fine as he had a pair of 5s in his pocket one of which was also a diamond. The 3c on the river changed nothing, and thus Stern got into a close acquaintance with the rail.
The money bubble was at 24th place and given the pace of the action, it was reached fairly fast. The dubious honor of being the last player to bust out without pay befell Guillaume Noel, after he got into a tussle with Ryan Fee. The former shoved on a Kc,Qc against the latter’s Ac, 2c. The board landed 2,8,7,5,A rainbow, which gave Fee two pairs and spelt the end of Guillaume’s tournament run.
After the money bubble burst, the remaining players were redistributed at three tables, and the action gathered momentum once again.
Jon Van Fleet put his tournament life on the line on a pair of 6s he picked up right past the bubble. Unfortunately for him though, Jeffrey Petronack had picked up a K,K on the same hand. The board gave both players a set, and thus Van Fleet was eliminated in 17th place.
Tark Abboud busted out 15th, and Robert Woodcock, the previous day’s leader became the final table bubble boy.
The 8 players to play on Day 3 were: Ryan Fee (in the chip lead with 481,000), Joel Micka, Jesus Bertoli, Maria Stern (Max’s wife), Jeffrey Petronack, Brent Sheirbon, Andrew Chen and Claus Rasmussen.
