Las Vegas Cabbie Rewarded for Good Deed

A few days ago a story broke about a Las Vegas taxi driver named Gerardo Gamboa, who woke up with a brown paper bag in the back seat of his car, containing $300k. The Filipino driver, who said his dignity was not for sale, proceeded to track down the owner of the money, returning it to the very last cent. He immediately picked up a $1k reward from the company he worked for, together with a steak dinner for two, but when the story first broke, there was no information available on the identity of the person who had lost the money – said to be a well-known
poker player – or on whether or not he rewarded Gamboa in any way.
While we still cannot say who the player in question was, several other details concerning the incident have since surfaced.
Gamboa had apparently picked up $9.1 in fare and an additional $5 tip from the player in question, having driven him from The Cosmopolitan to Palms Palace Tower. From there, he went to the Bellagio and he ended up picking up another client before beginning to ponder what sort of chocolates may have been left behind in the paper bag.
He took a peek at a traffic light and saw what the deal was. He told his passenger he was a witness to it and then he called the dispatcher, later dropping the bag off at company headquarters. Police and company officials later linked the money to the player and returned it all to the rightful owner.
Besides the reward given to him by the company, Mr. Gamboa has apparently been given a $10k tip by the player in question, whose identity has been kept under wraps.
Gamboa said he didn’t do it for the money. Even before he got the $10k tip, he had said he wasn’t expecting any sort of reward.
