Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon Main Event – Terry Fan Wins

The Macau Poker Cup’s Red Dragon Main event wrapped up the other day, putting an end to what turned out to be the largest and most successful Main Event of the Series ever. Terry Fan from the Chinese Taipei, walked away with the title and the HK$1.77 million top prize, after he survived an initial starting field of 891 players. The top prize of the poker tournament is the equivalent of about $230k, a more than handsome haul indeed.

The previous record for the largest ever live poker tournament held in Asia was a 635 player starting field, and with its 3 scheduled Day 1 flights, the Red Dragon was poised to beat it. On Day 1A, 209 players showed up, followed by a 288-player yield on Day 1B. Day 1C however saw no fewer than 394 players belly up to the tables, well enough to beat the above said mark and then some.
Sailesh Lohia finished the first Day 1 flight with the largest stack. On Day 1B, Zhen Wu Wang rose to the top, followed by Gie Reyes on Day 1C. A total of 232 players bellied up to the tables of the Red Dragon at the start of its second day of action. 108 players would walk home from the event with something to show for their efforts. The official bubble boy was Hiu Zhang of China who got his last chips into the middle with K,K against the A,10o of Hisashi Ogi. The flop landed an Ace and the money bubble was history.

Jim Collopy made it past the bubble: he finished 98th. Other notables who made the money were Nick Wong and Billy Argyros. The highest finishing “name” pro was Vincent Rubianes (11th).
Fan bested Reyes for the win.
