Mercier Wins 2 SCOOP Events

The 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker is in full swing at PokerStars, and some of the pros of the site are busy playing and - in Jason Mercier's case - winning too. With 24 of the 138 scheduled SCOOP events in the books, Mercier had already secured two titles. These two wins of his have taken the total tally of his SCOOP titles to 3. The interesting thing about Mercier's two wins is that they came on back-to-back days. The first victory came on Monday, May 11, in the SCOOP-05-H event, which featured a buy-in of $2.1k and a guarantee of $50k. A total of 56 players bought into the
poker tournament, creating a prize-pool of $112k, thus putting the guarantee to shame. Only 7 players got paid in this one, and it's needless to say that almost exclusively "name" professionals reached the final stage. Besides Mercier, Andre Messmer, Talal Shakerchi and Adam Owen were there as well. The heads-up stage of the event saw Mercier defeat Owen, having started off a 2-1 chip advantage.

The top prize was worth $39.2k. Mercier's second win came the following day, in the $2.1k NL Holdem Draw event. This one featured a $50k guarantee as well, and some 43 players put up the sizeable buy-in. This way, the guarantee was left in the dust again, the resulting prize-pool tipping the scale at $86k.
Once again, the final table was a pro-heavy affair. Besides Mercier, Mike Watson and Vladimir Schemelev made the final stage of the tournament too. This time around, only the top 5 places were paid, but that didn't bother Mercier: he took down $34.4k, defeating a player known as "berserk64" heads-up.
