The last stop of the NAPT’s first season proved to be highly popular with accomplished poker professionals. Following the massive player turnout of Day 1A, Day 1B yielded another 373 players, among them names like Nacho Barbero, Bertrand Grospellier, Mike Sowers, Tom Marchese, Michael Binger, Joe Cada and Daniel Negreanu.
The day 1B field took the total number of participants to an impressive 710. PokerStars’ own Nacho Barbero was among the first victims of the day. He was eliminated only a few hands into the action, and was followed out the door by Brazilian Formula One driver Gualter Salles. Vanessa Rousso and Bertand Grospellier failed to make it through the day too.
The Canadian contingent did a hell of a lot better though. There were four of them at the start of the day and all four of them made it through. Greg DeBora was the one spearheading the invasion. He was followed by fellow countrymen Marcello Del Grosso, Anh Van Nguyen and Daniel Negreanu. Joe Cada, 2009
WSOP Main Event champion, had a pretty good day too. He rose up the ranks to clinch the chip lead at one point, after which he plummeted back into the field but still managed to finish with a more than respectable stack.
The chip lead changed hands several times through today. Mike Sowers held it for a while, coming close to the 200,000 chip mark. Michael Binger had held the lead as well, and he too finished the day with a decent stack.
Other players to return on day two are: Phil Laak, Faraz Jaka, Kathy Liebert and Frank Kassela.
The chip leader was not decided until the very last hand of the day. Hafiz Khan flopped a flush to take down a 200,000+ pot, a deed which propelled him into the day 1B chip lead for good.
