Negreanu Clinches WSOP PoY Title

It’s official: PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu is the WSOP’s 2013 Player of the Year. Apparently, making the final table of the WSOPE’s €25.6k High Roller gave him enough points to finally secure the honors. He later went on to actually win that event, so he rewarded the trust put in him by WSOP officials nicely.
With this accomplishment, Negreanu became the first player to take down the PoY title twice. His first time was in 2004, when he took down a bracelet and finished at the final tables of no fewer than 5 events.
This year has certainly been a great one for the Canadian again: he won the WSOP APAC’s Main Event, taking down a $1 million prize. He cashed in 9 other events and – as said above – he eventually added yet another bracelet to his tally by winning the €25.6k High Roller of the WSOPE.

The player Negreanu edged out for the title was none other than Matthew Ashton, who picked up his bracelet (which was the first one of his career) at this summer’s WSOP, in the $50k Poker Players’ Championship event – quite an impressive achievement indeed. Ashton has also made 3 other final tables this summer, but in the end, officials were indeed proven right in their decision to hand the title to Negreanu.
Marc McLaughlin was another threat to Negreanu’s PoY title, but he failed to make the money in the High Roller, busting out on the bubble. He would’ve needed a 1-2 finish to clinch the PoY position. At the end of the day, the title couldn’t have landed in a better place: not only is Negreanu fully deserving, he is also keen on various point systems and ranking in general: he is a true competition buff. Since his locking up of the PoY title, Kid Poker has taken down his 6th WSOP bracelet.
Play at PokerStars and make your way into a massive live event like the WSOPE Main Event for pocket change.
