Negreanu Loses HU LH Challenge

PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu may have jokingly said before his heads-up
Limit Holdem challenge against Germany-based online LH specialist rUaBot that his primary goal was to avoid getting crushed. Alas, that’s exactly what he failed to achieve. The challenge session was set to last a maximum of 1,250 hands, at the end of which, the winner would be decided: either the player who managed to felt his opponent or the one who finished with a profit. Well, the challenge, which took place on Saturday, never reached the 1,250 hand mark, because one of the players – Negreanu – was out of chips by the time the 937th hand went into the books.
The action began on relatively a cautious note, as both players spent the first couple of hours of it probing the other guy’s defenses. Eventually, it seemed like the German found the cracks he had been looking for, while Negreanu sank ever deeper into confusion and despair. The two-time Limit Holdem
WSOP bracelet holder failed to get anything going in the later stages of the challenge and he was eventually bounced from the table.
The PokerStars pro was quite visibly frustrated at the end of his trouncing as his post-challenge chat did indeed reveal quite a bit of simmering anger. He told his opponent he was just glad the challenge was over and that he had never played 2 tables of HU LH in his life and never intended to repeat the feat.
In other news: the ANZPT’s Perth Main Event is in the books and a winner has been crowned in Mat Carlsson. The local player had to fight his way through a starting field of 340 opponents, on his way to the title and the $78,275 top prize. The final table was made up exclusively of Australian players, so the title was pretty much guaranteed to stay at home even before the final dash of the event kicked off.
